On 18 June 2025, activists from Extinction Rebellion, Fridays for Future, and the Resistance Collective Dusseldorf (Widerstands-Kollektiv Dusseldorf) staged a protest on Corneliusplatz in Dusseldorf (Nordrhein-Westfalen), demanding a car-free transformation of the square to mitigate pollution and emissions. Demonstrators used deckchairs and a pavilion to illustrate the potential for public space, while police temporarily blocked off the eastern side of the square in front of luxury shops. The protest was peaceful and aimed at promoting alternative urban planning.
